About an 8-year old girl, first generation American, daughter of Middle-Eastern parents, longingly looking through the pages of YM magazine. All while wearing a mis-matched red Poochie heat-transfer t-shirt and ill-fitting pink corduroy pants. That was me. I just wanted to be able to afford the beautiful clothes and beauty products in these glamorous magazines. Magazines, of which I couldn’t even afford to subscribe to, but would sign up for the free trial then cancel before I got billed. For that brief moment, I was transported out of my ‘immigrant’ life into a world of fashion that I could only dream of. My dream was to grow up and be part of this amazing, magical fashion world.

Fast forward 30 years, I have been working in fashion buying and product development for over 15 years and have 2 kids. I make a decent living, but still can’t afford runway fashion, which was my definition of achieving the ‘American Dream’. During this time, I had started buying more and more ‘fast fashion’ pieces from H&M, Zara, Amazon etc. just to be able to participate in trends. And the more I did it, the more I realized that I was able to get ‘runway’ fashion looks without spending more than I could afford. I started buying pieces and styling them together making them look expensive by adding accessories.

 That’s when Styld was born.

Styld, a service that puts together affordable, wearable, looks, complete with accessories, and delivers within a week! I had, all of a sudden, redefined what living the “American Dream’ meant for myself, it meant looking expensive and being able to afford it!  I could now be part of that glamorous world in YM magazine that used to only be reserved for those that could afford designer prices. High fashion looks could now be accessible to everyone, even my grown up 8 year old self in the red Poochie t-shirt and pink corduroy pants. She would be especially proud of everything we are doing today to make other girls like her know that feeling glamorous is not reserved for only those that can afford it.

Xoxo,
